Beach Weather Candle Review – Bath and Body Works
Beach Weather is a returning fragrance for 2023 from Bath and Body Works, part of the Black History Month collection featuring four fragrances by perfumer, Michael R. Carby. I really didn’t like this fragrance initially last year but grew to enjoy it later on, so I’m quite jazzed to see it back for a second year!
What It Smells Like
Description: Beach Weather is an earthy fragrance that smells primarily of a salted sandalwood that evokes the fragrance of gritty sand mixed with salty ocean air. While the dirtiness of the traditional Bath & Body Works sandalwood mixed with the sand was off-putting to me last year, I now really enjoy how realistic and natural this fragrance is, and truly smells like I’m running my hand through sand while catching the ocean saltwater in the breeze. The saltiness is coming from an unsweetened grapefruit zest. There is also a very subtle white floral in the background to give it the smallest amount of prettiness. This is a such a great palate cleanser when you don’t feel like any other fragrance category.
Comparisons: This is a returning fragrance of the same name from 2022. I believe this fragrance is heavily inspired by the Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt though, which has a very similar concept and description to it. It is also very similar to past Bath & Body Works fragrances of Linen Shores and Sea Salt & Sandalwood.
How It Performs
Burn: This has the core wicks that make mushroom tops, although the more manageable mushroom tops. It is the standard hot and fast burn that puffs soot after 2-3 hours, so diligent trimming before each burn is advised.
Throw: Light to Medium. This seemed much stronger last year, so it is a bit of a disappointment that this year’s seems to be somewhat lighter. Of course when I hated the fragrance, it threw great, and now when I enjoy it, it’s much lighter! 3-5 out of 10, still acceptable.
Conclusion
This is a fragrance that I completely flipped on and because I was sad that I finished my one from last year, I’m very happy to be reunited with this fragrance again. I also think highlighting the perfumer and putting a face behind this fragrance is really cool and enjoy that Bath & Body Works decided to do this for Black History Month this year.
