What It Smells Like

  • Description: Rose + Lychee smells like a “pretty” version of a lychee fruit fragrance. I predominantly get heaps of lychee, which smells like a mixture of grape juice and tart berries. I then get a very faint prettiness and powdery-ness from a slight rose floral, but no where near as prominent as I had hoped for. I am however a rose fanatic who loves intensely strong rose scents, so while there might not be enough rose for my liking, your judgement may vary. There are many rose and lychee perfumes out there so I was hoping for a strong perfume-y rose, but that was not the case. This smells mostly like a lychee candy or gummy often found in Asian grocery stores, or even a lychee boba tea.

  • Comparisons: Radiant Sky, which also has lychee as a fragrance note, is similar but much fruitier and also blended with other tropical fruits. Exotic Lychee from the Test Lab collection has more of a rancid and sour vibe to it that is rather unpleasant. I believe this is a genuinely new fragrance.

How It Performs

  • Burn: This has the core wicks with one of the sootiest and hottest burns this season. Even trimming the wicks to small nubs results in excessive sooting and accumulation around the sides of the jar.

  • Throw: Medium to medium strong. While the fragrance isn’t a heavy fragrance, it still lingers and travels into the air very well. I would give it a 7.5 out of 10.

Conclusion

I was initially super stoked for this candle when it was announced, as there are a number of rose and lychee perfumes out there on the market that I’ve always wanted to try. Upon burning it though, I am personally bummed that this is primarily a lychee candle and the rose is not as strong as I would’ve hoped for. It’s still my favorite lychee fragrance they have done, but I am not really a fan of fruity scents in general, so this is not a repurchase for me.
